MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
Formating
Language: All papers must be submitted in English. It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that the manuscript is grammatically and technically correct before submission.
Formatting: Manuscripts should be 1.5 spaced using a 12-point Times New Roman font.
Margins: To facilitate the review process, manuscripts must have margins of 2.5 cm (1 inch) on the top and bottom, and 3 cm (1.2 inches) on the left and right sides.
Pagination: All pages should be numbered in sequence at the bottom of the page.
Structure: Titles and subtitles should be kept short. To ensure a blind review, the main manuscript file should not contain author names or affiliations.
Tables & Figures: Tables and figures must be self-explanatory. Each should be understandable on its own, containing all necessary information (e.g., definitions of variables, units of measurement, and data sources) in the captions or footnotes. All items must include clear, concise captions and be numbered in sequence (e.g., Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2). They should be embedded within the manuscript at the appropriate points near their first mention in the text; but authors may be asked to provide high-resolution files (e.g., 300 dpi) separately upon acceptance.
Reference list: The bibliography must be placed on separate pages at the very end of the manuscript, following the main text and any appendices.
Blind Review
SEEJE uses a double-blind peer-review process, where both reviewer and author identities are concealed. So, authors are required to upload two separate files:
Title Page (Non-Anonymized): This file is for editorial use only and must contain:
The full title of the paper.
Full name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s).
Contact details of the corresponding author: Name, physical address, telephone/fax numbers, and e-mail address.
Acknowledgements and information on grants (included as an unnumbered footnote).
Anonymized Manuscript: This file is sent to referees and must be prepared to ensure anonymity:
First Page: Include the title, an abstract of no more than 100 words, keywords (up to five), and at least one JEL Classification code. (Note: Abstracts are not required for Letters, Book Reviews, or Editor’s Corner.) (See the AEA website for the full list of JEL codes).
Self-References: Use the third person for your own previous work.
Metadata: Ensure author names are removed from the file name and the document’s “Properties” (Metadata).
AI Polcy
SEEJE values scientific integrity. The use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies (such as ChatGPT or similar tools) to draft, structure, or generate the prose of the manuscript text, create core intellectual, theoretical, or empirical content, or interpret research data is strictly prohibited. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
AI technologies may only be utilized to improve the readability, grammar, and language translation of the authors’ own original work.
Disclosure Requirements: Authors must explicitly declare the status of AI usage in both the ‘Comments for the Editor’ (during Step 1 of online submission) and on the Title Page of their uploaded manuscript, using the following format:
If AI was used for permitted editing: State the specific tool name, version, and exact extent of its use (e.g., “Generative AI Policy Disclosure: ChatGPT-4o was used solely to improve English grammar and sentence structure in Section 2.”).
If NO AI was used for any purpose: Authors must explicitly write: “Generative AI Policy Disclosure: None.”
Failure to disclose permitted AI assistance, or any use of AI to generate core scientific or textual content, constitutes a severe breach of publishing ethics and will result in immediate desk rejection
Formulae and Footnotes
Formulae: Displayed formulae should be numbered consecutively as (1), (2), etc., against the right-hand margin. Authors are encouraged to provide full derivations on a separate sheet for referees (not for publication).
Footnotes: Should be kept to a minimum and numbered consecutively with superscript Arabic numerals.
References
Authors must ensure a strict one-to-one correspondence between in-text citations and the reference list.
In-text citations: Use “Smith (1992)” or “(Smith et al., 1969)”.
Reference List: Appears at the end of the text, double-spaced, and in alphabetical order.
Journal Titles: Must be written in full (do not abbreviate).
Examples:
Monographs: Sen, A., 1970, Collective Choice and Social Welfare, San Francisco: Holden Day.
Collective Works: Kornai, J., 1991, Stabilization and Economic Transition in Hungary, in J. de Melo and A. Sapir (eds.), Trade Theory and Economic Reform, Oxford: Basil Blackwell, 307-326.
Periodicals: Magdalinos, M., 1990, “The Classical Principles of Testing Using Instrumental Variables Estimates”, Journal of Econometrics, 44, 241-279.
Tables & Figures
Tables: Must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals.
Figures: All graphs, maps and diagrams should be referred to as “Figures” and numbered consecutively. Illustrations must be high-contrast and provided with captions that allow them to be understood independently of the text.
